Holy (Guaca)Moly

I, like pretty much everyone in the world in the past year or so, LOVE avocados. Seriously, they're delicious, and wonderful, and I could really go for some right now... Maybe some avocado toast... Okay, I'm getting off topic, but basically I love avocados so much, I had to paint some on my nails. These were inspired by Girl Next Door on Instagram.

The glittery base for these babies was Goldeneye from OPI. I then painted the lil' avocado halves and slices using a mix of L.O.L. from Essence, and Sassy from Revlon. I added in the details using brown, white, black, and pink acrylic.

Le close up.

So what about you guys? Are you part of the avocado lovers? Or do you hate them? Let me know in the comments below!

Morning Report

So some cool dudes from The Hammer released a new album today. I did some nail art.

To paint the Arkells new album, Morning Report, I started with a base of Sure Thing from Revlon. I then lightly dry brushed on a mix of Dreamer from Revlon, Sea Spray from China Glaze, and Sky Blue from Barry M. I finished it off by drawing the face and detailing it using blue, white, a light flesh tone, and black acrylic.

More on these nails later!

Chuck Hughes

Chuck Hughes... AKA my favourite chef EVER. I've met him 3 years in a row, with last August being that third time. He's always a super cool guy, and so last year, I decided to paint some nails for our meeting.

So Chuck is a big fan of lobsters, and has a tattoo of one, as well as a sugar skull. His restaurants are in Montreal, so I added in the Montreal Canadiens logo, as well as checkered nails (Vans) and his autograph.

The checkered nails started with a base of Sure Thing from Revlon. I then used a black striper to make the checkered pattern, cleaning up any mistakes with white acrylic. The Chuck nail and the Montreal Canadiens nails both started with a base of Black Taxi from Nails Inc. I painted on Chuck with white acrylic, and the Canadiens logo using blue, red, and white acrylic. The sugar skull nails were a base of Revlon Red from Revlon, and I painted the skulls using black, white, and red acrylic. The lobster nails, as well as my thumb (the CNE logo) were a base of Sure Thing. I then painted the lobsters using red, black, and white acrylic. Finally, I painted the CNE logo on my thumb with purple, green, yellow, pink, red, and white acrylic.

Some lobsters close up.

Chuck was pretty impressed, and I ended up holding up the line up to meet him due to him checking out my nails.

This might be the first year I don't meet Chuck in 3 years, and I'm pretty sad, but here's to hopefully meeting him next year again!

Work Shoes

And by Work Shoes, I mean the new USS song. USS aka Ubiquitous Synergy Seeker (say that 5 times fast) is another band that I've spent the past three years trying to see, but for some reason, have never been able to. So, call it good luck, good planning, or whatever, but I managed to see them play a Sugar Beach session last week. And it was epic. By now, I'm sure you know what this meant: I painted some nail art.

The base was Liquid Leather from China Glaze. I then painted the USS logo using black and white acrylic.

I ended up meeting the guys, and they posted (and then also reposted) my nails on Twitter a couple times, which you can see here, et ici

See you guys soon!

The Birth of The Coffin Nails

The end of August was the birth of my coffin nails. Like I mentioned in an earlier post, they only lasted about two months, but they were fun while I had them. But it just reached a point where I missed my claws, so I pulled out my trusty nail file and filed 'em back to an almond/stiletto shape. That being said, I definitely documented them while they were coffin shaped, especially at the end of August, since I had done some rad henna on myself.

I'm rocking Sure Thing from Revlon in these pictures, with brown henna. Friendly reminder not to use black henna, as that stuff can seriously hurt you.

And a tired faced me showing off my henna and coffin nails as I prepare to move out for school.

So what do you guys think? Coffin nails or almond nails? Let me know!

Billy Talent

So the Louder Than The DJ video shoot was actually supposed to happen a few weeks before it did, so it was at this point that I made the brilliant decision (#sarcasm) to stay up until 3:30 in the morning painting Billy Talent's first four albums on my nails.

Here are all four nails. On my pinkie, I painted Billy Talent I starting with a base of Revlon Red from you guessed it, Revlon. I then painted the details using yellow and black acrylic. My ring finger was Billy Talent II with a base of Sure Thing from Revlon, followed by the details of the mouth breaking through using black, white, red, and yellow acrylic. On my middle finger, I started with a base of Liquid Leather from China Glaze for Billy Talent III. I then painted on the III using green acrylic, and added the birds and distressing using black, and white acrylic. Finally, my pointer finger was Dead Silence, painted over a base of Make Some Noise using Essie. I then painted on the shark and edge of the building using light blue, black, and white acrylic.

A close up of Billy Talent II, aka my favourite of their albums. Although all of their albums are FANTASTIC.

And here's some closer shots of all four.

Hope you guys enjoy. And if there are any requests for nail art you'd like to see, let me know!

Louder Than The DJ

Soooooooo... last week I got to be in a Billy Talent music video for their new song Louder Than The DJ... I'm still kind of freaking out. I was one of 50 people chosen to be in the video in this tiny little bar in Toronto. It was seriously amazing. And of course, I had to have some nail art for it.

I painted the Louder Than The DJ art, starting with a base of Liquid Leather from China Glaze. I then painted in the details using black, white, and red acrylic.

Close up time.

As if the night wasn't good enough, the band also played us a concert, and I ended up meeting Jon and Aaron from the band! I've been a fan of Billy Talent since I was in elementary school, so this was kind of a dream come true!

Hope you guys enjoy,

PCH

The band Tokyo Police Club decided they we're going to play one of their songs PCH off of their new album Melon Collie... for 12 hours. And I was there for many of these hours... I heard the song over 150 times... and I still like it.

The base for this was Liquid Leather from China Glaze, and then I wrote the Tokyo Police Club logo using white acrylic.

I also ended up having an impromptu interview about my nail art with the band's vocalist, Dave Monks!

Overall, it was a super cool day, with a bunch of amazing people!

Bananas... For Banana Nails

The beginning of school was so crazy hectic, that I did very little nail art. This was one of the few/super quick manis I did.

The black nails were a base of Liquid Leather from China Glaze. I then put on a tiny bit of All About You from Sinful Colors. Then, the magenta nails are Orchid Me Not from Sally Hansen. The white nails started with a base of Sure Thing from Revlon, and then I painted the bananas using Orchid Me Not, and lined them with black acrylic. Finally, the neon pink nails were Pool Party from China Glaze, which I added random lines on using a black striper.

I think this design was only on for a couple days before I switched over to the Arkells nails. But it was fun while it lasted! I seriously love painting banana nails. :D

See you guys later!

Come To Light

As I've mentioned a bit, my posts stopped last year because life got busy! Last September I (finally) went to post-secondary school after my two years off spent working. Of course, with college, and university comes Frosh Week (or whatever the first week filled with events is called for your area). My school ended up pulling off one of the greatest Frosh Week concerts in the area, especially since we were the only school to end up with this band for Frosh. We got the Arkells.

If you don't know who the Arkells are, they're a Canadian band from right near where I live. They're kind of local legends, and they're really making it big world-wide. And since it was a band I liked, and a concert, nails were done.

The base was Liquid Leather from China Glaze, and the details were done with white acrylic. It was a pretty long process painting these, as writing Arkells was very tiny and detailed.

I definitely recommend you check the Arkells out, especially since their new album is out soon!

See you guys tomorrow!

Birthmarks

Just before I went to Riot Fest last September, I went and saw Born Ruffians. Yes, I see them a lot. As a lil nod of nail art to the Born Ruffians, I painted the album cover for Birthmarks.

The base for it was, as always, my favourite black polish, Liquid Leather from China Glaze. I then used various colours of acrylic to paint the triangles/lines making up the "B" and "R".

On that note, I'm kind of missing the coffin nails. Should I rock them again? Let me know!

Let's Start A Riot... Fest

In September, I won tickets to Riot Fest, which included The Dirty Nil, Weezer, and Alexisonfire. Considering Alexisonfire broke up in 2012, this was epic news for me, and clearly required some nails.

I wanted to keep everything black and white so I could really tie the nails together, so the base was Liquid Leather from China Glaze, with all details in white acrylic.

Close up of the Alexisonfire nail.

And the Dirty Nil nail.

Fun fact: the father of one of the members of Alexisonfire was my orthodontist. I even used to get Alexisonfire toothbrushes.

Until next time!

Walking Into Spiderwebs

Aaaaand here are my annual spiderweb nails.

The base was Liquid Leather, which I then painted spiderwebs on using a white striper.

More spiderweb nails will definitely make an appearance this October.

Bye for now!

Braaaaaaains!

Ah Halloween, my favourite of the holidays. During September and October last year, I changed up my usual almond/stiletto shaped nails for some coffin shaped nails. I figured it was especially appropriate for Halloween time.

Of course, in the true spirit of Halloween, and creepiness, I had to do some more zombie nails. And for photo purposes, I added some Third Degree silicone, fake bruising, and fake blood to my face and hands.

Many polishes were used for this look, and they included:
Sheer Nude from Orly, French Quarter For Your Thoughts from OPI, Suzi Loves Cowboys from OPI, Revlon Red from Revlon, and Liquid Leather from China Glaze. If you want to see the tutorial on these babies, check out my post from two Halloweens ago here.

Strangely enough, I don't like horror movies, but I really, really love Halloween. Dressing up for Halloween is my favourite, especially when I get to incorporate some creepy, gory element.

Last year I was zombie Rosie The Riveter, and I'm already working on an idea for this year. Do you guys like Halloween? Any thoughts for costumes this year? Yes, I know it's only July, but the Halloween spirit is with me all year long!

Happy not Halloween! :p See you guys tomorrow!

M-I-C-K-E-Y M-O-U-S-E, Mickey Mouse!

Last October was an interesting month. It was my second month of school, and I was still settling in to my new home, and getting used to doing school work again. Between the stress of school, and the loss of my bunny, Layla (yes, I miss her very much, but I have two new additions in my life that I'll share sometime), I needed to do something to feel better. And so, I did what any sane 20 something would do: I booked a spontaneous solo trip to Disney World... less than a week in advance. Okay, so that's not what most people would do, but I had an amazing time.

While I strangely enough did not have my nails painted in Disney, as soon as I got back, I knew exactly what I had to paint... The title should make it obvious.

A one Mr. Mickey Mouse.

The base was my favourite black polish, Liquid Leather from China Glaze, and then I painted Mickey using black, white and red acrylic. I went with one of the more original Mickeys, as he's my favourite.

I absolutely adore Disney, and in between band nails, I need to get back to some Disney designs. Any suggestions?

See ya soon!

PUP & MOBO

Sorry for the lack of post yesterday! It was my brother's graduation, so it was a busy day, but I'm back with a post today! Back in November, I saw a concert with both PUP and Modern Baseball. You can see my previous PUP mani here, and my last MOBO one here.

Both my pinkie and my middle finger started with a base of... well I can't currently remember. I know it was China Glaze, but I'll have to double check when I'm home with my polish collection. I then painted on the Modern Baseball dog using black and white acrylic. My ring finger was a base of Liquid Leather from China Glaze, which I then painted PUP on using white acrylic. Finally, my pointer finger was a base of Sure Thing from Revlon, with Modern Baseball using black acrylic.

As always, it was a great show. Except for the part where a girl got injured at this show. She ended up being okay though, and I even saw her at the last Modern Baseball show I went to! But aside from that, it was a great night.

Until tomorrow,

I Love You... "I Know"

If that title doesn't ring a bell, WHAT ARE YOU DOING WITH YOURSELVES? GO WATCH THE ORIGINAL STAR WARS. Okay, kidding, but seriously, Star Wars is good, so it's always worth watching, but I'm not going to force you to watch it. That being said, if you absolutely aren't aware, "I love you" and "I know" are an iconic exchange between the characters Princess Leia and Han Solo, which brings me to this mani from last December.

Pretty sure the base for these was Surfing Paradise from Island Girl Hawaii. I then went in with black, white, and brown acrylic to paint Leia, Han, and the speech bubbles.

Close up of Leia.

And one of Han.

So are you guys Star Wars fans? If so, what's your favourite one? As a little kid, I was always partial to Episode VI... mainly cause I thought the Ewoks were cute...

Adieu until tomorrow!!

The Force is Strong with this... Christmas?

Maybe Darth Vader likes being festive too, okay? Maybe he bakes cookies for Santa (with dark chocolate chips of course, cause the DARK side), and hangs ornaments throughout the Death Star...

Okay, maybe not, but these were some Star Wars Christmas nails I did back in December.

The base for these was Liquid Leather from China Glaze. I then sponged on Back In My Gloria Days from Nicole by OPI, Frostbite from China Glaze, Lady Lavender from Sally Hansen, Bizarre Blurple from China Glaze, and Dorothy Who? from China Glaze. I also added a bit of Sure Thing from Revlon, and painted stars using white acrylic. After that, I painted in Darth Vader (with antlers and a red nose) using various colours of acrylic.

Aaaaand close up time.

Also, a couple underwater shots to really show off the galaxies.

This is probably one of the most fun designs I've painted. 'Twas the season for Star Wars, so it just worked out well.

Hope you guys enjoy!
