M-I-C-K-E-Y M-O-U-S-E, Mickey Mouse!

Last October was an interesting month. It was my second month of school, and I was still settling in to my new home, and getting used to doing school work again. Between the stress of school, and the loss of my bunny, Layla (yes, I miss her very much, but I have two new additions in my life that I'll share sometime), I needed to do something to feel better. And so, I did what any sane 20 something would do: I booked a spontaneous solo trip to Disney World... less than a week in advance. Okay, so that's not what most people would do, but I had an amazing time.

While I strangely enough did not have my nails painted in Disney, as soon as I got back, I knew exactly what I had to paint... The title should make it obvious.

A one Mr. Mickey Mouse.

The base was my favourite black polish, Liquid Leather from China Glaze, and then I painted Mickey using black, white and red acrylic. I went with one of the more original Mickeys, as he's my favourite.

I absolutely adore Disney, and in between band nails, I need to get back to some Disney designs. Any suggestions?

See ya soon!

Fantasia

I always thought the movie Fantasia was incredibly underrated, so one of my early designs of the year was inspired by Mickey as the wizard.

The base colour was Starry Starry Night from Essie. Then I painted on Mickey using acrylic paint.

If Fantasia isn't a Disney movie you've seen, or don't remember, I definitely recommend it!

Until next time,

Some People Are Worth Melting For

I've only seen Frozen once, but that didn't stop me from falling in love with that goofy little snowman named Olaf. And so now I, like pretty much everyone else, can't help but smile when I see him, and so today's manicure was inspired by that lovable guy.

I started with a base of Blue Away from Sally Hansen, then started painting Olaf. I started with a base of white acrylic, and added details with red and black acrylic. On my pointer finger, I painted "I like warm hugs" with red acrylic, then added leaves and dots with white acrylic.

So there you go, a Frozen inspired manicure to match the frozen temperatures outside.

Hope you guys enjoy!

O Captain! My Captain!

As I'm sure many of you now know, last week we lost a legend. I have to say, it's the first celebrity I've felt truly saddened about losing. I mean usually, when a celebrity you like dies, you're sad at first, but it passes quickly. You didn't actually know them, you just knew the characters they played on the big screen, but this time, it's different. Whether it was watching him as Genie, helping to turn Aladdin's life around, making us laugh as he masqueraded as Mrs. Doubtfire or encouraging us to "seize the day" as Mr. Keating in the Dead Poet's Society, Robin Williams will be missed greatly. And so, today's manicure, pays tribute to Robin Williams.

My pinkie is High Line Green from Sally Hansen, and represents the movie Flubber. On my ring finger, I used a base of Sure Thing from Revlon and then painted the quote "O Captain! My Captain!" in black acrylic, which is from the movie Dead Poets Society. My middle finger is a base of Sure Thing, followed by a gradient of Frostbite from China Glaze and Casino Royale from OPI, then the Genie from Aladdin painted in acrylic. My pointer finger is flowers painted in acrylic (representing Mrs. Doubtfire's floral print dress) on a base of Sure Thing. Finally, my thumb is a base of Sure Thing, then I sponged on Surfing Paradise from Island Girl Hawaii and Unplugged from China Glaze. Then, using acrylic, I painted on Hook.

As a second tribute to Robin Williams, I doodled with some Sharpie and created a fake tattoo.

So, Robin Williams, you will be greatly missed.

Hope you guys enjoy.

Tangled

It is a well known fact that I LOVE Disney. If you haven't figured that out yet, then what have you been doing?! Anyways, I thought it was about time for another Disney themed manicure.

The Disney movie I chose to base my design off of was Tangled. I chose to model the art after the illustrations during the credits of Tangled.

I started with a base of Sure Thing by Revlon, then sponged brown acrylic on each nail. My pinkie is a tree painted with green, brown and black acrylic. On my ring finger, I painted Rapunzel using black, white and yellow acrylic. My middle finger is Pascal the chameleon, painted with black, white and yellow acrylic, and my pointer finger is Maximus the horse, painted with brown, black and white acrylic. Finally, my thumb is the tower Rapunzel lives in, painted with black, white and brown acrylic. Finally, I topped everything off with Big Matte Top Coat from Sally Hansen.

Hope you guys enjoy!

Stitch!

By now, you all know I love Mickey Mouse, and second only to my love for Mickey, is my love for Stitch. Yes, this is another Lilo and Stitch design. But I can't help it. That little blue guy is adorable.

The base is White Matter from Formula X. Then I used black, blue and pink acrylic to paint Stitch and "Ohana Means Family".

Hope you guys enjoy!

Mickey Mouse! Again...

Yes, it is almost 2 in the morning and I'm blogging, but I have to work tomorrow and I need to post this to keep my promise to blog more. :) And you read that title right. This is another Mickey Mouse manicure, but hey, you should be used to it by now. Besides, I'll have another manicure up this weekend. A non-Mickey Mouse one.

Super quick manicure. The base is White Away from Sally Hansen, and then I drew on Mickey (it's based on a sketch by Walt Disney) in India ink with my calligraphy pen.

Hope you enjoy, and I'll talk to you guys soon!

Black and White Mickey Mouse

Hey guys! So, I have lots of posts for you coming up! Especially with Halloween nearing. So in the next 3 weeks, expect concert nails, art photos and zombie and skeleton themed designs. For now though I have a simple, black and white design from *sorry* 2 weeks ago.

I kept it super simple with the geometric black and white theme. The black is Black Satin from Rimmel and the white is the Sally Hansen French manicure pen because I have yet to find a new white I like, ever since Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Whirlwind White was discontinued. So, do any of you know of any good white polishes? Let me know if you do! Anyways, back to the manicure. Yes, I stuck Mickey Mouse in, but by now you should all know my obsession with Disney, especially Mickey Mouse. :) Hope you guys enjoy, and I should have another post for you tomorrow.

Minnie Mouse Tips

Hey everybody! Here is my manicure of the moment.

As I've mentioned before, I adore Mickey and Minnie Mouse, and Disney in general, so that's why Disney themed designs tend to be on my nails. I started with a base of Designer... de Better from OPI. Then, on my ring fingers, I painted a black half circle at the tip, along with two tiny black circles for ears with Black Satin from Rimmel. I finished it off with a white polka dotted red bow with acrylic. Enjoy!

Au Revoir 2012!

So, seeing as 2012 comes to its close tonight, I figure I better post my last design for the year.

Some old school Mickey Mouse nails. The base colour is Designer... de Better from OPI's Muppets collection and the details are done with acrylic and pen and ink. I love Mickey Mouse, and Minnie Mouse, and Pluto and Disney (if you haven't figured that out yet :p). And if you haven't noticed my love for Mickey and Minnie, you can see one manicure here, another one here, another here (along with my Mickey Mouse purse), and one more here. Yup. That's it. For now anyways. :p

Have a Happy New Year everyone! See you guys next year!

31 Day Nail Art Challenge --- Day 11, Polka Dots

I didn't just want polka dots for my day 11 manicure, so I went one step further, and combined something I love with the polka dots to make what I personally think is an awesome manicure.

The white is White On from Sally Hansen, the red is Wocka Wocka from OPI and the black for the Mickey Mouse heads is Black Satin from Rimmel.

Elvis Presley was a model citizen...

I'm sure most of you are sitting here, reading this title and thinking, "Huh?" Well, for those of you who know Lilo and Stitch, you'd know that Lilo (and eventually Stitch) idolize Elvis Presley. So when Lilo is "training" Stitch, she uses Elvis Presley as an example of a good citizen.

Anyways, since I loved the gradient I just did, as well as the Lilo and Stitch nails from a few months ago, I decided to paint some Stitch nails.

The gradient is made with Ogre-the-Top Blue from OPI and You Belong to Me from Essence. The base for the Stitch nails is also Ogre-the-Top Blue. All the details are in acrylics.

The Evolution of Pluto

First of all, happy belated Canada Day and happy early Fourth of July. Anyways, for Canada Day, I did not have Canada Day nails, but instead, the evolution of Pluto the dog nails.

Starting with the pinkie, I painted Pluto's first ever appearance; The Chain Gang, 1930. The base is Whirlwind White from Sally Hansen Insta-Dri, and Pluto is painted with acrylics. The ring finger is Pluto in the 1940's, on a base of Stormy from Revlon Top Speed, with a white wash over top, and the details painted with acrylic. The middle finger is Pluto in the 1950's, based on the purse I bought in Disney. The base is Lime Up from Essence and Gypsy Queen from Misa. The details are in acrylics. The pointer finger is Pluto's current look, on a base of the light blue Migi pen. Finally, the thumb is Pluto's autograph on a base of Deep Blue Sea from Sally Hansen.

Enjoy!

Tale As Old As Time...

Here's my latest nail design.

Yup, it's Chip from Beauty and the Beast! This design came from a sociology assignment I have where we're supposed to watch a beloved childhood movie and talk about different social aspects of it. But, enough of my boring talk :), let's get to the tutorial.

This was painted with acrylic craft paint.
1. Paint the cup shape in white. (I started with a base of four coats of Essence Sweet as Candy)
2. Paint the base of the cup purple.
3. Add pink and light blue decorations on the base of the cup.
4. Outline the base of the cup in yellow, as well as the top of the cup. Add Chip's "nose" or the handle of the cup in yellow.
5. Add Chip's eyes. You can make the eyes by painting a black oval first, letting it dry, then painting white over top (photo below).
6. Add Chip's mouth, clear coat and you're done!
For the other nails, I made a wavy french in purple acrylic and yellow acrylic to match the base of the cup.

Ohana means family and family means no one gets left behind...

These are the words of Lilo, as in Lilo and Stitch, which brings me to my latest manicure!

Enjoy! And remember, ohana means family...

OPI's Minnie Mouse

There are tons of new nail polish collections coming out, and some of them are exciting me like crazy! Most of all though, I can't wait for the OPI Minnie Mouse Collection.

It features a frosted red, called The Colour of Minnie, a shimmery magenta, called If You Moust, You Moust, a pretty pink, called I'm All Ears and a heart filled glitter, called Nothin' Mousie Bout It. It's set to release in June, but I don't know if I can wait! I'm a huge Minnie and Mickey Mouse fan, which makes this super exciting! Speaking of Minnie and Mickey, last year, after my return from Disney World, I painted them on my nails. Here's the look.

They were inspired by this purse that I bought in Disney. Enjoy!

Minnie and Mickey Mouse

Here's a tutorial for you on Mickey and Minnie Mouse nails.

1. You need assorted nail polish, a dotter (dotting tool, toothpicks, pins, pencils, etc.), tape or hole punch reinforcements and scissors.
2. Prep your nails. Apply a base of black (Black Satin from Rimmel London) for Mickey and white (Whirlwind White from Sally Hansen Insta-Dri) for Minnie.
3. When fully dry, apply tape or reinforcements to create a half moon mani. Apply red (Wocka Wocka from OPI).
4. Using a dotting tool, apply two yellow (Migi nail pens) dots for Mickey's buttons. Apply white dots for Minnie's polka dot dress. Add bows for Minnie.

Good morning...If it is a good morning...Which I doubt...

These words are not mine. They're the words of the cute, stuffed donkey that any Winnie the Pooh lover knows; Eeyore. He was on my nails at the same time as Tigger. Originally, I was going to paint the rest of the gang, but school work got in the way, as well as the rest of life, so I just settled for Tigger and Eeyore.

Tigger likes to bounce a lot... Cause that is what Tiggers do best.

So, it's been a few weeks since I've had this on my nails, but it took me a while to find a good photo where there was no flash. Here it is, my T-I-double G-ER nail. :)
